Migrate Bashor Lab Site to MkDocs — Preserve Visuals, Enable Markdown Updates
Project Overview: The Bashor Lab at Rice University is seeking a developer to migrate our existing website (bashorlab.rice.edu/) from Webflow to a static site architecture using MkDocs. The primary goal is to shift to a Markdown-based workflow for easier long-term maintenance while retaining the high-fidelity visual design and animations of the current site.
Key Responsibilities:
•Platform Migration: Rebuild the current Webflow site using MkDocs. The new site must allow for content updates via Markdown files.
• Visual Fidelity: Replicate the existing visual design, styling, and animations. The look and feel must remain consistent with the current live site.
• Content Optimization: Convert current image-based text blocks into selectable, searchable HTML text while preserving original typography and visual effects.
• Navigation Upgrade: Implement a responsive "hamburger" drop-down menu (top-right) for improved section navigation.
• New Content Integration:
o Develop a new "Alumni" section (all content assets provided).
o Integrate social media links (Instagram, X, GitHub) with provided icon assets.
• Mobile Responsiveness: Ensure the site is fully responsive and optimized for mobile devices.
Requirements:
• Strong experience with MkDocs (and familiarity with Jinja2 templating if custom theming is required).
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS/SCSS, and JavaScript to replicate Webflow animations.
• Experience with responsive design principles.
• Can accept payment with Purchase Order (PO).
